The Girls are as Cold as the Weather

By

The saga of the world traveler son Seth continues with another adventure from Thanksgiving. You may recall that my youngest son left for Barcelona Spain a couple of months ago to “find the perfect woman”. You can find the write-up ‘Seth Goes to Spain‘. Why Barcelona I had asked, silly me. Seth told me at that time that it was all about the Latina women, their fiery temperaments and unbounded energy. Interesting I mused. So Seth sublet out his apartment in New York and gave notice at his job to travel and see the sights in Europe. Very cool except its wintertime and its cold outside.

So for the curious and the brave follow along with Seth and me on this adventure. The latest installment came in the mail today from Seth.

Hi Dad!

What´s the haps, how was your Thanksgiving? Mike Taylor is in town and staying with me in my apartment, so we spent Thanksgiving together. We tried to go out and have dinner last thursday, we found this cool restaurant that is really cheap, good food and nice atmosphere but we never made it. We started out at happy hour at my favorite bar called Sugar near Plaza Rieal, that is the plaza where my hostel was when I first arrived. Anyway, we were having a couple of drinks when this other American I had met showed up so we hung out a little longer with him until he left to meet his girlfriend. Then friends of mine from the bar I worked at arrived with a small crew so we decided to stay for yet another drink. We ended up leaving with them to go to another bar and stayed until the bar closed. So our Thanksgiving dinner ended up being a hamburger at 3 o’clock in the morning, oh well.

This place is wonderful but I am itching to get back to the States. Lately I have been feeling really home sick for NY, which surprised me because I didn’t think I would miss it that much, but it just goes to show that you don’t fully appreciate something until it’s not there. But when I return I’m only going to stay a few days in NY to sort some things and then I’m off to South Beach. I can’t wait for some sunny weather, the wind has really turned cold here and my tan is almost completely gone. The woman here are about as cold as the weather, they don’t seem to like Americans all that much, another reason I miss home, ¨oh I wish they all could be like California girls¨.

I miss you Dad and I think of you often. I’ll write again soon.

Sounds awfully familiar I think. Somewhere in the distant past there was a Thanksgiving like that here in the not so romantic setting of Los Angeles. LA sounds so wonderful when you are sitting half way around the world but on a bar stool late Thanksgiving evening it is not such a great place. I could imaging that Barcelona could be the same.

Actually it is such a great treat for me to hear from Seth. After I get done writing this I will dash him off a letter of congratulations for making the Thanksgiving Hall of Fame.
